ABSTRACT
Purpose:
This study aimed to examine the mediation effects of self-efficacy on the knowledge and compliance of hand washing among cosmetology students.
Method:
Data were analyzed using SPSS/WIN 22.0 program. The general characteristics of the subjects, knowledge regarding hand washing, compliance for hand washing, and self-efficacy were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Differences between the variables as per participant characteristics were analyzed using an independent sample t-test. A three-step regression analysis was conducted to verify the effects of self-efficacy in the relationship between hand-washing knowledge and compliance in cosmetology students.
Results:
Cosmetology students who received education regarding hand washing exhibited higher knowledge and compliance for hand washing. Higher knowledge of hand washing and higher self-efficacy were associated with a higher degree of hand washing; self-efficacy was mediated by hand washing.
Conclusion:
Self-efficacy mediated the effects of hand washing in students of a cosmetology college. We believe that the provision of education regarding hand washing will increase the efficacy and performance of hand washing in students.
Key words: Mediation effect, Cosmetology student, Hand washing knowledge, Hand washing compliance, Self–efficacy,
