A study on Educational Needs in Cosmeceuticals of Female College Student’s

ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study is to investigate educational needs in cosmeceuticals of female college students to present basic data for researches on buying behaviors and using conditions of female college students on cosmeceuticals. The subjects of this study were 420 female college students, who were surveyed between April 1 and 10, 2009. The results of this study are as follows. First, the general characteristics of the subjects were 18 to 20 in their ages, first graders in their school years, and department of public health and nursing in their majors. The cosmeceuticals the subjects used were UV blocking, whitening, and anti-wrinkle cosmetics(in order). Second, the educational interests of the females about cosmeceuticals were higher when they were older, their school years were higher, and they were in department of public health and nursing. The degrees of educational necessity of cosmeceuticals were higher when they were older, they were juniors, and they were in department of public health and nursing. Their educational consideration on the prices of cosmeceuticals was higher when they were at least 24 years, they were juniors, and they were indepartment of public health and nursing. Their educational consideration on the functions and compatibility for skin was higher when they were older, their school years were higher, and they were in department of public health and nursing. Third, as for the interests and degrees of necessity according to experience of using cosmeceuticals and the considerations on the prices, functions, and compatibility for skin, female college students who had experience of using cosmeceuticals were higher than those without such experience in all whitening, anti-wrinkle, and UV blocking cosmetics. Based on the results of this study, it may be needed not only to devise measures to improve understanding of female college students on cosmeceuticals, but to systematically instruct understanding of cosmetics in colleges.
