ABSTRACT
According to Korea Cosmetics Association, the total production of domestic cosmetics industry reaches KRW 3,700 billion as of late 2005, accounting for 2.0% of the global market. With its increasing importance in the global cosmetics market, it seems possible that market share of our domestic cosmetics industry goes up to 3% in the global market in the long-term view. In 1960's, our domestic cosmetics industry began to lay grounds and manufacture such product as lip sticks, eye shadows, foundations, manicures, mascara. At time most of the sales was made by wholesaler. However, in spite of small production volume, consumer sales enjoyed such high sales growth of 30%-40% from mid 60's thru 70's coupled with economic growth. Beginning 80's, pressure to open market for imported cosmetics, along with the increase of GNP per capita diversified consumer demands and led them to pursue wide variety of products with high-quality and performance. As a result, creating demands thru the progress of cosmetics manufacturing technology motivated the growth and the domestic cosmetics industry's own R & D technology advanced greatly. Besides, the progress of domestic medical technology, and revolutionary bio technology incorporated into cosmetics manufacturing technology to produce cosmetics containing co-enzyme component, EGF component by developing new cosmetic components and types. In 2010's, it is very much likely that cosmetics evolve to lots of different forms not just to apply on the face, and one of the prospects is solublization in cosmetics area. The objective of this study is to provide the potentiality of cosmeticmanufacturing technology in relation to the way domestic cosmetics industry should move toward to meet with diversified consumer demands and cope with the rapidly changing global cosmetics market by focusing on where our domestic cosmetics industry is now, the theoretical basis for solublized products as means of development of domestic cosmetics industry, the characteristics and manufacturing process of solublized products.
