ABSTRACT
The skin is an important organ, and the need for attention to its metabolic requirements is often underestimated by professionals involved with its integrity and beauty. Vitamins and minerals are the indispensable nutritional basis for the maintenance of its integrity. The skin has very peculiar nutrition needs, which should be acknowledged and supplied if necessary. Skin aging is a continuous process heavily determined by the combined influences arising from intrinsic aging, the environment and lifestyle factors including our diet. While it has long been understood that balanced nutrition is essential for maintaining healthy skin, and certain nutritional deficiencies result in skin abnormalities; increasing evidence suggests that what we eat can affect our skin aging appearance. Therefore it is not surprising that diet has been identified as a possible modifiable environmental risk factor for premature skin aging.
