ABSTRACT |
This quasi-experimental study was performed to verify the effect of manipulative therapy on the
skin elastic property by applying myofascial release and Swedish massage. Experimental subjects
were selected as 18 healthy females in their early 30s without skin lesions who lived in K city, and
then randomly assigned to three groups, 6 subjects per each group. Manipulative therapy used in
this study was re-constructed by the investigator on the basis of the myofascial release used in the
study by Bae Seung-Ryong & Seo Hyeon-Gyu and the Swedish massage used in the study by
Seong Yeong-Ho. The treatment was performed a total of 8 times with 5 day intervals. Skin elastic
properties of right cheek, lower back, and postauricular area were measured by using Cutometer
MPA 580, and the length of cheek was measured from the tail of the eye to the corner of the
mouth by using a tape measure. Collected data were analyzed for the analysis of variance and repeated
measures design by using SPSS 10.0 program. Results of this study were summarized as
follows.
1. Changes of skin elastic property according to the treatment point in three groups showed that
the elasticity of face and postauricular area was significantly increased in the experimental group 1
and the experimental group 2 as the number of treatments was increased.
2. Changes of skin recovering property according to the treatment point in three groups showed
that the recovering property of face, back, and postauricular area was significantly increased in the
experimental group 1 and the experimental group 2 as the number of treatments was increased.
3. Changes of the length of cheek according to the treatment point in three groups showed that
the length of both left and right cheeks was significantly increased in the experimental group 1 and
the experimental group 2.
4. Skin elastic property before and after the experiment among three groups showed that the elasticity
of face and postauricular area was significantly increased in the experimental group 1 and the
experimental group 2.
5. Skin recovering property before and after the experiment among three groups showed that the
recovering property of face area was significantly increased in the experimental group 1 and the experimental
group 2.
6. Changes of the length of cheek before and after the experiment among three groups showed
that the length of both left and right cheeks was increased in the experimental group 1 and the experimental
group 2.
From the above experimental results, it is considered that manipulative therapy is effective in the
increase of skin elastic property and skin recovering property, and thus can be applied as an efficient
skin treatment method in the prevention of skin aging. |
