ABSTRACT |
Methicillin Sensitive Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus ) (MSSA) and Methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) are serious and growing worldwide public health problems. In the present study, the antibacterial activity of stems of Acer ginnala was studied. Its 80% acetone extract and fractions (Fr.1-8) were investigated against MSSA and MRSA. Extract and fractions of Acer ginnala were tested for antibacterial activity through minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) method. MIC of stems of Acer ginnala extract was appeared to 2,000 ug/ml at MSSA. The most active fractions were Fr.5 and Fr.6 and they were very active against MSSA and MRSA strains with MIC ranging from 1,000 to 2,000 μg/ml. These results encourage us to think that stems of Acer ginnala can be used as natural antibacterial agents and functional food & cosmetic sources.
